About Us

Shaqodoon is a non-governmental organization (NGO) established in 2011 to provide innovative and sustainable solutions to the youth employment challenges in Somaliland & Somalia. The organization evolved from the EDC Somali livelihood project, funded by USAID, which aimed to improve access to work, training, and self-employment opportunities for youth in Somaliland, Puntland, and South-Central Somalia.

The North-eastern region of Kenya - predominantly inhabited by ethnic Somali communities - has distinct socio-economic characteristics. It is a region that faces various challenges, including high levels of poverty, limited access to quality education, inadequate infrastructure, and persistent youth unemployment. These factors contribute to the socio-economic disparities and create barriers to the region's overall development.

Shaqodoon Organization recognizes the immense potential that lies within the youth of the North-eastern counties and aims to address the specific challenges they face. By focusing on this region, Shaqodoon seeks to empower the young population by providing them with opportunities for education, employment, and entrepreneurship.

Through its programs and initiatives, Shaqodoon aims to equip young individuals in the North-eastern counties with relevant skills in areas such as technology, business development, and vocational training. By doing so, Shaqodoon endeavors to bridge the unemployment gap and create a pathway to sustainable livelihoods and economic growth for the youth in this region.

Shaqodoon's approach in the North-eastern counties combines tailored training programs, mentorship, and access to resources to unlock the potential of young people and promote entrepreneurship. By nurturing a spirit of innovation and equipping them with the necessary tools, Shaqodoon aims to empower youth to become drivers of change and contribute to the economic development of their communities.

“I believe the program offered by Shaqodoon and The Next Economy was very beneficial to my business, I gained valuable knowledge that transformed the way I viewed my business approach.”
